Where do these prices come from?
gold-api.com's public spot-price feed (in USD), auto-refreshed every 60 seconds and also updatable manually via the Refresh button — nothing is stored or cached by this site.
How does the currency selector work?
The underlying spot price is always in USD, so selecting another currency converts it using live exchange rates fetched from a separate free API. If that rate feed is temporarily unavailable, the price falls back to USD with a note.
Are these prices what I'd actually pay to buy gold or silver?
No — this is the spot price (the raw market price for the metal itself), not a retail price. Actually buying coins, bars, or jewelry includes a dealer premium on top of spot, which varies by seller and product.
