Where do the prices come from?
CoinGecko's public API. Prices auto-refresh every 60 seconds, and you can also click Refresh manually — nothing is stored or cached by this site.
Why doesn't the price match Binance or Coinbase exactly?
CoinGecko shows an aggregated market price averaged across many exchanges, not one specific exchange's order book. Small differences from any single exchange (Binance, Coinbase, etc.) are normal — crypto doesn't have one universal 'correct' price since liquidity is spread across exchanges.
Can I look up a coin that isn't in the default list?
Yes — the search box looks up any coin CoinGecko tracks (thousands of them), not just the 8 shown by default (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, BNB, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, Cardano). Use the currency selector to switch between USD, EUR, GBP, INR, JPY, and others for both.
