alternative.me combines several signals into one 0-100 score — market volatility, trading volume and momentum, social media sentiment, Bitcoin's dominance, and Google search trends. It updates once a day.
Does a low score mean prices will go up?
Not necessarily — it's a snapshot of current sentiment, not a prediction. "Extreme Fear" readings have historically sometimes preceded rebounds and "Extreme Greed" has sometimes preceded pullbacks, but the index describes mood, not where prices are headed next.
Is this specific to Bitcoin or the whole crypto market?
The whole crypto market broadly — it's not computed per-coin, so it doesn't tell you sentiment for a specific altcoin.
