Frequently asked questions
Why does it show both WTI and Brent crude?
They're the two major crude oil benchmarks, priced separately — WTI is the U.S. benchmark, Brent is the international one, and they trade at their own prices based on different supply regions and grades of oil, not a fixed spread.
Is this the price I'd pay at the pump or for home heating?
No — these are wholesale futures contract prices, the reference prices commodities trade at between producers, refiners, and traders. Retail prices (gasoline, heating oil, utility gas bills) include refining, transport, taxes, and margins on top of this.
What do the units mean?
Oil is quoted per barrel, natural gas per MMBtu (a standard energy unit), and copper per pound — the conventional units each of these trades in globally, not something this tool chose arbitrarily.
