Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the New and Old regime?

The New Regime has lower tax rates but doesn't allow most deductions (like 80C or 80D) beyond a flat standard deduction. The Old Regime has higher rates but lets you subtract eligible deductions from your taxable income first.

What standard deduction does it use?

₹75,000 under the New Regime and ₹50,000 under the Old Regime, matching the FY 2025-26 / FY 2026-27 rules — these are applied automatically before computing tax.

Why does my tax show as ₹0 on a middle income?

The Section 87A rebate zeroes out tax when your taxable income is up to ₹12 lakh under the New Regime (up to ₹5 lakh under the Old Regime). The calculator applies this automatically and shows it as a separate 'Section 87A Rebate' line when it kicks in.

Does the total include cess?

Yes — a 4% Health and Education Cess is added on top of the tax remaining after any rebate, to arrive at the final 'Total Tax' figure, matching how Indian income tax is actually charged.
