Frequently asked questions
What does the compounding frequency option change?
It controls how often interest is added to your principal before the next round of interest calculation — Annually, Half-yearly, Quarterly, or Monthly. More frequent compounding produces a slightly higher maturity amount for the same rate.
Does this account for TDS on FD interest?
No — the calculator shows gross interest earned, before any tax deducted at source by the bank or your final income tax liability. Check with your bank or a tax advisor for the actual post-tax amount.
Can I use this for a recurring deposit instead?
No — this calculator assumes a single lump-sum deposit at the start. A recurring deposit (monthly contributions) uses a different formula, closer to the SIP Calculator's approach.
