PDF Text Extractor

Pull the selectable text out of a PDF, ready to copy or search. Scanned pages without a text layer won't work.

How to use PDF Text Extractor

Everything runs in your browser — the file is never uploaded.

  1. Upload your PDF.
  2. Click Extract Text to pull out its existing selectable text layer.
  3. Copy or search the extracted text.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the Image to Text (OCR) tool?

This reads a PDF's existing selectable text layer directly — it's fast and exact, but only works if the PDF actually has real text in it. A scanned document or photo has no text layer at all, so use Image to Text (OCR) for those instead.

Does it preserve the original formatting?

No — text is pulled out as plain text per page, with page breaks between them; columns, tables, and font styling aren't preserved.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No — the PDF is parsed entirely in your browser.
