Frequently asked questions
Why do I need a server-side tool for this instead of just running it in my browser?
Browsers have no API for raw DNS queries — that's an OS/network-level operation, not something JavaScript in a webpage can do directly. This tool's lookup runs on our server and returns the results to you.
Why might a record show as "No records found" when I know it exists?
DNS changes can take time to propagate, and this queries whatever resolver our server uses — if you just changed a record, it may not have propagated everywhere yet. Try again in a few minutes.
What does the MX record's number mean?
That's the priority — lower numbers are tried first. If a domain has multiple mail servers listed, the one with the lowest priority number is the primary, with others as fallback.
